Coppin State scratches out split with Delaware State

by Keith Henry

DOVER- How rare is it in softball that a three-game series only produce 1-0 final scores in every game of that series?

Coppin State scored a run in the top of the eighth on a Delaware State error and the defense stepped up huge in their 1-0 victory in the second game of a doubleheader at the Hornets' Nest yesterday.

This came on the heels of another heartbreaking 1-0 loss to Delaware State in the first game on a one-out RBI single from Hornets' pinch hitter Breanne Parr in the bottom of the seventh inning.

In the first game, Coppin State still had problems with their timely hitting as the Lady Eagles left eight people on base and were 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position

Extremely rare according to Coppin State head coach Larry Hineline. "I've never seen it before. It's hard on the nerves. But we won the last game and it kind've saved our season. Now we can go on and possibly finish third, if not second (in the MEAC North) We got to beat UMES & Hampton. But I think we're ready for that."
