Rollercoaster effort leads to Mystics' loss

by Keith Henry

The Washington Mystics have to learn sooner or later that bad starts lead to tough losses. Tonight's game was yet another example of that fact as Renee Montgomery and Tina Charles combined for 49 points in Connecticut's 79-71 victory over the Mystics at the Verizon Center.

What really hurt the Mystics tonight was their play inside the paint. The Sun outscored Washington 38-18 in the paint. Also the zone defense of Connecticut (3-1) had an effect on how the Mystics ran their offense. It helped the Sun take a 31-14 lead with 6:57 left in the second quarter.
