Coppin volleyball swept at Battle of Baltimore

by Keith Henry

CATONSVILLE- Coppin State volleyball is continuing to find themselves in the early moments of the 2010 season. No one said it would be easy.

UMBC took their shots first yesterday afternoon in disposing of the Lady Eagles 3-0 (25-16, 25-9, 25-11) at the RAC. No Eagle had more than three kills in the match that lasted only 70 minutes. This served as the Retreivers' first match of the season.

Coppin ran into bigger problems later that day in a Towson team that rampaged the Lady Eagles 3-0 (25-5, 25-10, 25-9) The Lady Eagles' lack of consistency was apparent all game long as they had plenty of problems handling the ball.

Serve recieve seemed to be their weakest part of the match as they had difficulty getting the offense going. A few overpasses led the Tigers to collect easy points.

Most of the Tigers' points came off of Coppin ball handling errors. It's something they're aware of and have to correct in order to have a successful season.
Runs of 10+ consecutive points punctuated all three games for Towson (6-0).
